So I read this book a couple of months ago, but it has taken me a while to fully understand how I really felt about this book. This is the second Colleen Hoover book I have read, so I went in with high expectations, after already falling in love with Hoover's writing and the way her brain works. Verity is Hoovers 10th stand alone novel, being published in 2018, falling under the young adult to new adult book categories.
When the famous author Verity Crawford is unable to finish her world famous book series, Lowen Ashleigh is hired to co-author the final books. In order to do this, Lowen is made to move into the Crawford family home in order to dive into Verity’s notes . As Lowen grows closer to Jeremy Crawford, she does not expect to find Verity’s unfinished autobiography, unravelling all her, and Jeremy’s deepest and darkest secrets.
This book was absolutely remarkable, having me unable to put it down and finishing it in one sitting. The initial connection Lowen and Jeremy had, kept me guessing throughout the book as to what was going to happen next. But the way Hoover exploits the main plot of the story, the romance in the book was in the back of my mind. I loved how the vibe of the book was set right from the start, with the layers gradually unfolding to an ending that had me physically shocked. The twists and turns of this book had me completely blindsided, with some heartbreaking consequences. The way Hoover basically wrote two books in one was absolutely unreal, both storylines allowed us to develop deep connections with both the main characters, leaving me completely torn at the end.
A book that is able to leave more questions than answers is always one I will rate highly, Hoover leaves us able to infer our answers, each option leading to a completely different ending. This was one of those books that I was thinking about for days after, having to pick it up multiple times to confirm how I really feel about the events of the story.
I would highly recommend this book to basically anyone! But I would definitely recommend looking up the trigger warnings first though. The healthy mix of thriller, mystery and romance, alongside the absolutely amazing style of writing makes this book such an interesting and engaging read. The book sitting at just 336 pages makes the plot develop quickly without missing a beat, including developed but concise character and plots. With all that I've said, its not hard to guess that I did give this book 5 stars, and will absolutely be reading this book again, because I am certain that there are things that I missed first.
